In this section of our website you’ll find tips on all aspects of tree care including soil, mulch and nutrition; watering; stakes, ties and fencing; sidewalk and basin care; pruning; and common problems and disorders. You’ll also find information about the new City policy regarding the care of street trees.
Friends of the Urban Forest makes three tree care visits to each tree we plant during the first three years of its life. If you have a tree that was planted by FUF less than three years ago, and you believe it has a problem that needs urgent attention, please contact nina, our tree care coordinator, for advice or to arrange an appointment. You can reach nina by phone at 415-525-8387 or by email with our contact form.
If you’d like professional assistance, consider using the services of a certified arborist.
Note: As of July 1, 2017, property owners in San Francisco are no longer legally responsible for the care of the adjoining street tree or the repair of tree-related sidewalk damage. These responsibilities now belong to the City. See this page for details.
