Want to choose your tree?

Take a look at our Russian Hill Species List to pick out a tree that is suitable for your site.  This matrix helps you select a tree that is a good fit for your sidewalk based on the following criteria specific to the planting site:

  • Is your tree on an east-west or north-south oriented street?  East-west streets get more wind exposure so trees planted on these streets need to be more wind tolerant.
  • Are there overhead high voltage wires above your sidewalk?  Look for a yellow “High Voltage” sign on the pole.  Trees under high voltage signs need to be short stature.
  • Is your sidewalk wide enough to accommodate a larger or more spreading tree?

Email Mike@fuf.net to connect with the Planting Manager for this project (certified arborist) who can help you pick out a tree that’s right for you.

How does the planting process work?
In collaboration with neighborhood residents, we organize tree planting events in SF neighborhoods.  On planting day, FUF staff, volunteers, and residents plant trees for themselves and their neighbors–building both community and a stronger urban forest. When we’re done, we relax and celebrate with a potluck lunch.

Why should I plant a FUF tree at my property?
Trees provide benefits such as cleaning the air, preventing flooding, and raising your property value. FUF is a nonprofit that has planted more than 60,000 trees during 1,000 +community plantings in SF.
