Evergreen; conical or oval crown.
Glossy, green, oval leaves, 1-3", with undalated margins. Petioles dark purple/brown to black.
1/2" dark purple flowers in spring.
1/2" black capsules with sticky seeds.
Smooth, dark gray.
In general, 15-20 gallons per week for the first 2 years; 15-20 gallons twice a month for the 3rd year; as needed after 3 years (varies by soil, sun, and wind conditions).
- Tree Care:
Low. Early pruning needed to train a good shape; pruning needed less frequently with age.
Coastal conditions, any soil, some shade, and medium winds.
- Special Considerations:
Very adaptable tree. Susceptible to aphids, scale, and sooty mold. Thin prune in late winter.

Native to New Zealand. Flowers are fragrant at night.
