- Foliage:
Shiny green, palmate leaves with 3 short lobes, 2-4"; Turn red in the fall, especially in cooler temperatures.
- Flower:
Dense fascicles of small red flowers with yellow stamens appear before leaves in late winter.
- Fruit:
Reddish-green samaras mature to tan, 1/2-1".
- Bark:
Smooth, light gray, maturing to dark gray. Develops shallow fissures with age.
- Watering:
In general, 15-20 gallons per week for the first 2 years; 15-20 gallons twice a month for the 3rd year; as needed after 3 years (varies by soil, sun, and wind conditions).
- Tree Care:
Moderate. Require light annual pruning to maintain structure and promote growth habit.

Tolerates any soil, but prefers good drainage; some shade.

Growth will exceed street tree requirements; better in larger areas. Chlorosis develops in high pH soil. Susceptible to verticillium wilt, aphids, sunburn, and wind scorch.
